Great insights, Oliver. I'm glad you've introduced notion of vertical v. horizontal information flows. Those who advocate 'networked' style of interactions or an organizational hybrid .. eg., 'Heterarchy': K.Stephenson (2007) .. get at the new complexity in other ways.

In any case, the concept of information flows in more than one direction should get everyone thinking. Context is truly becoming king, as complexity of interactions grows. KM has to play a role.

I'm intrigued by your use of 'Collaboration Technology' as a way to describe social media adoption in Enterprise 2.0, and presumably its cousin, Government 2.0.

Are you seeing traction with this terminology?

The semantics of 'social media' certainly don't help in the commercial context. I'm involved in several threads on that as we speak (or should I say, type).

Any insights appreciated .. thanks for another great post.
